The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
