The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
