Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
