In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
