He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
