Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
