Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 As for us, there is none but has an appointed station. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 We glorify God." 166 They say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 we would surely have been God's chosen servants," 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 That they would be helped, 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
