The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
