Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
