In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
