'O Messengers, eat of the good things and do righteousness; surely I know the things you do. 51 This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so hold Me alone in fear. 52 But they split in their affair between them into sects, each party rejoicing in what is with them. 53 So leave them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed time. 54 Do they think that by increasing their wealth and children 55 We [but want to] make them vie with one another in doing [what they consider] good works? Nay, but they do not perceive [their error]! 56 Verily! Those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; 57 who believe in the verses of their Lord; 58 And those who do not associate (aught) with their Lord, 59 And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning). 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 And We tax not any person except according to his capacity, and with Us is a Record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 On the contrary, their hearts are in neglect of this and their works are different than those of the believers, the works that they are doing. 63 Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah] for help. 64 (We shall say): 'Do not groan today, surely you shall receive no help from Us' 65 My revelations were recited unto you, but ye used to turn back on your heels, 66 [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night." 67 Have they not pondered the saying, or came there upon them that which came not upon their fathers, the ancients? 68 Or did they not recognise their Messenger and so denied him? 69 Or they say, “He is afflicted by a demon”; in fact he brought the Truth to them, and most of them dislike the Truth. 70 Had the truth followed their caprices, the heavens and the earth and whosoever in them is had surely corrupted. Nay, We brought them their Remembrance, but from their Remembrance they turned. 71 Do you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) ask any fee from them? So the reward of your Lord is the best; and He is the Best Provider of Sustenance. 72 And indeed you call them to the Straight Path. 73 And most surely those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from the way. 74 ۞ And if We show mercy to them and remove the distress they have, they would persist in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on. 75 Already We have seized them with the punishment, but they neither humbled themselves to their Lord, nor did they beseech Him, 76 Until when We shall open upon them a portal of severe torment, and lo! thereat they are desparing. 77
