Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
