۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
