A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
