And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 But when he brought them Our signs, lo, they laughed at them. 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided." 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?" 53 So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah]. 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
