Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
