Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
