The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
