a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
