Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
