The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
