The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
