The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
