The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
