The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
