The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And [by] those who remove with ease 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 and vie with the others (in carrying out their Lord's behests); 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 to be followed by further [convulsions]! 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 "Even after we are crumbled bones?" 11 They said, “So this return is an obvious loss!” 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 Have you received the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 saying, "Go to the Pharaoh. He has transgressed beyond all bounds. 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you should fear Him?'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 Yet he belied and disobeyed. 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 then, he gathered, proclaimed, 23 And said, "I am your most exalted lord." 24 So Allah seized him with the punishment of the hereafter and the former life. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
