The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So (O Muhammad SAW) withdraw from them. The Day that the caller will call (them) to a terrible thing. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
