He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
