The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 For a mighty day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? 19 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed 20 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord). 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
