The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
