Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a high Garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And linen spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
