The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
