Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
