And they ask you about Zulqarnain. Say: I will recite to you an account of him. 83 Verily We established his power on earth, and We gave him the ways and the means to all ends. 84 Then he followed a way. 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement: 87 As for those who believe and do good, they will receive virtuous rewards and We will tell them to do only what they can. 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Then he followed a way 92 Until when he reached (a place) between the two mountains, he found on that side of them a people who could hardly understand a word. 93 They said, "O Dhu'l-Qarnayn! Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land, so may we pay you tribute on condition that you set a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: "That (wealth, authority and power) in which my Lord had established me is better (than your tribute). So help me with strength (of men), I will erect between you and them a barrier. 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 Said [the King]: "This is a mercy from my Sustainer! Yet when the time appointed by my Sustainer shall come, He will make this [rampart] level with the ground: and my Sustainer's promise always comes true!" 98 ۞ And on that day We shall release them in groups surging like waves one after another, and the Trumpet will be blown – so We shall gather them all together. (* Gog and Magog will come out during the time of Eisa (Jesus – when he comes back to earth) and cause great destruction in the land.) 99 On that Day We shall lay Hell bare before those who deny the truth, 100 Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
