Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
