Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
