The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
