Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
