Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
