The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
