The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
