The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and upraised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
