He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
