He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving after goodness, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain - how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness of shame: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
