Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and grudgingly spends very little for the cause of God? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Or, has he not been told of that which is in the Scrolls of Moses 36 And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] - 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 And that for man shall be naught save that wherefor he endeavoureth. 39 And that his endeavour shall be presently observed. 40 Then he will be fully repaid for it? 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 And He who ordains death and life; 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; 46 That the second creation is incumbent on Him; 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 So there covered them that which covered. 54 Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 None except Allah can avert it. 58 Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
