He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
