He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
