The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
