The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the sky (bespangled) with the signs of the Zodiac, 1 and by the promised Day, 2 and [of] Him who witnesses [all,] and [of] that unto which witness is borne [by Him]! 3 Cursed were the people of the ditch (the story of the Boy and the King). 4 Full of fire fed by faggots, 5 while they sat around it, 6 And to that which they did to the believers were witnesses. 7 And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- 8 Whose kingdom spreads over the heavens and the earth. God is witness over everything. 9 Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire. 10 [But,] verily, they who attain to faith and do righteous deeds shall [in the life to come] have gardens through which running waters flow - that triumph most great! 11 Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern. 12 Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection). 13 He is the All-forgiving, the Most Loving One, 14 Lord of the Throne of Glory, 15 Executor of His own will. 16 Has the story reached thee, of the forces- 17 Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? 18 Yet the infidels persist in denial. 19 and God is behind them, encompassing. 20 Nay, but this [divine writ which they reject] is a discourse sublime, 21 in a guarded tablet. 22
