Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
