The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
